To enhance the experience of fans and keep the tournament interesting, the BCCI has amended the rules to include two new features. Firstly, the third umpire has been given the power to overturn a run-out decision, cancel a batsman for not crossing the crease line, and track time during matches.
Secondly, the IPL has introduced a new rule – a 20-over over. A fielding team must start its 20th over within 75 minutes and complete it within 90 minutes.
But, the IPL has not increased the fines for slow over rates. Before, the team batting first would receive six extra runs for every over bowled after the 75-minute mark.
The IPL has also introduced a 10-minute Innings Break. The Innings Break will only be taken at the agreed time. During this break, the batting side can take an optional drink break of two minutes and 30 seconds.
